The book of Proverbs, mainly written by King Solomon (the wisest man) and other kings – who were large scale employers, is a very important source of consulting for professionals in corporate world, who sincerely aim improvement in work efficiency, success in career, and thereby effectiveness in impacting their work atmosphere. Peter Christopher Raj of Franklin Templeton Investments begins his meditations on proverbs.
Purpose of the book: “for attaining wisdom and discipline; understanding words of insight; acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; getting guidance” – Hence, your office is not primarily a place of earning livelihood, power, position, info on others, rather a God ordained place for you to deliver your best on your job, bringing insight and value to your employer and the business, place of demonstrating godly prudence, righteousness, justice and fairness, and building the people under you and around you. You cannot take your job granted to ‘kill another day’, rather remember to be effective in everything you do. As ‘business’ is your mission, capitalize each day to improve you, and to bring value by your presence and contributions.
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.” Never despise learning from discipline, and never be complacent to obtaining wisdom from daily life. “Waywardness… will kill … complacency …will destroy; … be wise (and) fear God (so that) you will live in safety, be at ease, without fear of harm”.
Listen to the concerns of your senior officials & oblige to their instructions (they are your parents at office!?!). Do not forsake what they share. When you oblige, they will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.
Do not give in to anyone who will entice you to do wrongful things. Never part with anyone who intend to cause any harm to others. Never be party for ‘plundering’ ‘valuables’ in short cuts. Once their tricks are revealed, you will have to share the shame with them. Forget not ‘back-firing’; it may also harm your career.
You can find useful information & ‘office wisdom’ in many office spots – just keep you sensing radars active focusing to learn wisdom points rather than tit bits of info. “How long will you remain as simple(tons) …. (and be) subject for mockers delight?“ Learn from every rebuke & mockery (that you experience or witness). “If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you.”
“Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD … since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.” Think “fruit”, think what you sow. Since you are a child of God nobody can harms your life and prospects, whereas you will reap only what you sow.
